Bring on the Break of March!!

Sitting here on the cusp of March Break; that annual week that my kids loaf around the house and I don't have to get them anywhere in particular by any time in particular. Love it! Big. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about having a quasi-routine, but the break from it is also very welcome.

This winter has been getting me down and I'm hoping the break of March is going to shake things up a bit for me and get me back on track. That and shedding the last of the baby weight from Baby G (he who shall be one year very soon and my excuse for fat is running out, unless I keep nursing him and use that as my crutch! lightbulb...)

While many fly off to sunny places and spend way too much money, we opt to frugally hunker down in our mortgaged home and make lots of yummy meals, watch movies, go to the local Provincial Park and/or conservation area (if this gal-danged winter ever goes away!), and maybe throw in a trip to the bowling alley and movie theatre. Hubby is taking the week off and will be on his way home shortly (did I mention that he works 4 hours away from home during the week and that it sucks? just saying).

My mom turns 65 this week. Taking her out for a lovely lunch at the local wood-fired pizzeria. Looking forward to their veggie pizza and a lovely (big) glass of Pinot Grigio :) Happy Birthday Mom! We are twenty years apart in age but seem much more like sisters, really. Hey, my oldest and my youngest are almost 21 years apart. It's true.

...and yeah for St. Patrick's Day, being that I'm part Irish and all. Time to stick some shamrocks in the windows and make some haggis.

Ew. Never. Ever.

Quote of the day:

"mama" boy child #7

"you are so lovely..." me

sniffle and sigh. Doesn't get better than that.

Valentines Schmalentines

Anyone else with me on the bah-humbug towards V Day? I stick hearts on the window to be festive for the little ones. Begrudgingly do the dog and pony act for the hand-outs at school. Heck, I even mailed a box of chocolates to Girl #1 (child #2) who is away at school (with a big pink heart glued to the outside just to make it more festive)! For myself and my dear spouse I truly could not care less. It's just so manufactured. Or maybe I'm just too blase to gear up for romance, I do have nine kids you know. Heck, hubby gets off easy compared to the plethora of dudes I saw scrambling for cards and chocolate at the drug store yesterday.

Maybe next year I'll recognize pre-V Day for my hubby; because I'm sure I will love him more that day than the next. 13th just sounds more loving than 14th dontcha think? Do I sound mean?

Quote of the day:

(at the pediatric dentist this morning)

Boy #5 hops up in chair, looks earnestly at the hygenist and declares "actually, I don't think I want you to do the brushing thing today. I don't really like it that much." He lost, she won. Or maybe he won since he walked out with a big, shiny red heart-shaped helium balloon.

Now wouldn't THAT be some heart-shaped balloon?? Ew, kinda.

So...I'm back.

How do you like that? Two posts and I disappear. sigh. Nothing interesting happened that would make for a juicy excuse for my absence. Nothing.

Baby G is now over 9 months old and lovelier than lovely, really.

University applications have gone out for Boy#2 (child #3). sigh.

I'm so boring. I got nothing today. Let me go chew on this whilst taking Girl#2 to the doctor for her mysteriously swollen foot; I think I deserve some McD fries today. yep.

Quote for the day:

Boy #5 (of course, who else?)

"I'm going to rub all the freckles off of your face" says Boy#1 to Boy#5

"even the one on my p#$@s?" Boy #5, very seriously

see? I got nothing.

Four months + Exersaucer = Hallelujah!

Happy Happy and Joyous Joy, my hands are free!!

and Baby G thinks it's pretty swell too. I think I could have done this a wee bit sooner and saved myself a few days of vacuuming whilst laden with child.

Look at that glistening bald baby head topping off the wise-old man look he's been sporting as of late. Doesn't get better than that. Almost makes me want to have another one...almost.

Quote of the Day:

yet another pearl from Boy #5

"If your foot skin comes off what would happen?" Boy #5

"well...(with an awful visual dancing about in my head) you would bleed quite a bit." Me

"why?" Boy

"well...your foot skin is what holds all your foot stuff inside." Me

"I guess I won't take my foot skin off then." Boy

"probably a good idea." Me

Like it was an option...

What the heck was I thinking???

ok...whoever said "Kim, you should start a blog" should now pick up the phone, give me a call and say "what the heck were you thinking?! You can't start a blog..." I feel like there is so much I want to say, but so little motivation to say it. Walking hand in hand with that is the worry/belief/worry that I don't really and truly have too much that is too terribly interesting to say. How's that for a go-get 'em attitude?

What the heck? Here goes...

From where I sit today things are:

a little smelly (thank you boy child #6);

a little sticky (thanks armpit of humanity that I have chosen as my home, my sweaty little home);

Cloudy

82 °F

Humidex: 97.....ARGH!!

and a little blah (it's August, enough said).

I am currently sitting at two smelly older boys still sleeping (at 2 p.m. grand), one older girl working in a lab, one other girl riding roller coasters in another country, one young boy on a date with his grandparents, and four other boys running about my house (o.k., three are running, one is nursing...right now, as I type with one very talented right hand).

The raw truth of my unemployed status has reared it's ugly head as of late and I think the idea of blogging has kinda sorta come to fruition because I have no career so dammit I will create one for myself. maybe. kinda. sorta. How am I doing so far? Care to pay me?

Since this is my very first post I won't pull out all my tricks at once; like fancy smanshy photos and such. We all need something to look forward to right? My hopes and dreams for today are a clean bum for boy child #6, a daughter who doesn't fall absolutely in love with roller coasters (ick), and a boy (boy child #4) who has had a fabulous date with his grandparents. and perhaps a semi-quiet afternoon for moi. yeah right. when I'm done fulfilling wish number one.

Quote of the day:

"When socks get a hole in them is it there forever?" Boy Child #5 (4)

"yep, it's there forever. Time to throw those ones out" Me

with a quiver in his voice "...but I will miss those socks."

oh to have such sensitivity...I'm a cold-hearted sock-tossing bitch.
